Although N877MG now lives out its life parked on the ramp at HFF, its history began 1200 miles away in Long Beach California when it was rolled out as a C-47B on the 31st of July 1944 and delivered to the China National Aviation Company (CNAC).
The Douglas DC-3 was this year's top pick in the AOPA Best Aircraft Showdown, sponsored by Aero-Space Reports, beating out aircraft including the Cessna 172, the Beechcraft King Air, the Supermarine Spitfire, and this year's runner-up, the F4U Corsair. Commenter Conor Dancy summed up the competition in the final round: "These are my two favorite airplanes. If I won the lottery I'd buy both." (Reuters) - A Army chaplain, who gave his food and clothing to fellow Americans in the hopes they would survive a Korean War prisoner-of-war camp in which he died, was honored on Thursday when President Barack Obama awarded him a posthumous Medal of Honor.
