C47 towed glider pilot

World War II veteran recalls co-piloting glider
Gene Menking, a retired chief master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force, became a nonflying crew chief for the service during World War II. Menking, now 89, also co-piloted a glider during paratrooper training. "A [big troop] glider had to be hand-flown, maintaining the glider’s position above the C-47 towing it," he said.
